Celebrate the opening of the Cannes Film Festival with a simultaneous showing of the festival’s opening film, Moonrise Kingdom by Wes Anderson, playing in selected theaters Tonight in Paris. Adding a touch of lightness to what is usually an intense drama, the organizers of this year’s festival have chosen to open with a wacky sentimental comedy brilliantly orchestrated by the eclectic American film director well known for his dry humor and poignantly flawed characters. Wes Anderson welcomes the crowds on La Croisette with yet another glimpse inside his wonderfully whimsical world.
Opening film for the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, Moonrise Kingdom takes us on a journey back to childhood as two young hearts strive to stay together against all odds. With an aura of Norman Rockwell, Wes Anderson plunges the viewer into the vague idealism of an American past, with a visit to the Scouts. Set on an island off the New England coast, in the summer of 1965, outsiders Suzy and Sam seem to hit it off and make a secret pact to runaway from camp to live out their secret in peace. As the islanders set out to look for the children, complications quickly arise as a huge tropical storm hits the coastline, adding a healthy dose of drama to this sleepy little seaside town.
